The MOT area exploded with new construction from the early 2000s onward, and Bayberry, Westown, Parkside, and Willow Grove Mill are full of large open-plan homes with kitchens that look fine until you use them. That's a rewarding remodel because the footprint is generous and the structure rarely fights us. We reconfigure to a true working island with seating, replace the shell with full-overlay plywood-box cabinetry to the ceiling, add stone counters and a proper range hood vented outside instead of recirculating, and layer the lighting. Middletown is about twenty-five minutes down Route 896 and Route 1 from our Newark shop, and town permitting is straightforward when the work stays inside the envelope.
